According to data released by the Ministry of Interior, approximately 67,000 new security cameras were installed across the country in 2022 alone. Experts emphasize that these cameras play a significant role in reducing crime rates and aiding in the resolution of incidents. Their effectiveness is particularly notable in high-risk areas such as crowded squares, public transportation hubs, and schools.

Another important finding concerns public perception of security cameras. A comprehensive survey conducted in Istanbul revealed that 72% of citizens support the use of security cameras and feel safer as a result. However, the same study showed that 18% of respondents expressed concerns about privacy violations.

The increase in security cameras is also driven by technological advancements. Facial recognition systems and AI-powered analytical tools enable security forces to process the data collected by cameras more quickly and effectively. At the same time, this raises discussions regarding personal data protection and privacy. Experts stress that while the benefits of these technologies are considerable, ethical concerns must also be carefully considered.
